Job Overview
A well-established and growing dry bulk transportation company in the Greater Toronto Area is seeking an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead its operations. Reporting directly to ownership, this role is responsible for overseeing a fleet of approximately 100 power units and leading a small administrative team while driving business performance, delivering exceptional customer service, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
This is an in-office leadership position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced transportation environment and enjoys being actively involved in the day-to-day operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for daily operations
- Lead, mentor, and support a small management and administrative team
- Ensure fleet resources are positioned to deliver exceptional customer service while maximizing operational efficiency
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and minimize empty miles
- Oversee operational performance, vendor relationships, claims management, and billing guidance
- Administer employee coaching and disciplinary matters when required
- Collaborate with affiliated companies to maximize shared resources and business opportunities
- Utilize reporting tools and business data to support informed business decisions
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Several years of progressive management experience within the transportation or logistics industry
- Strong operational leadership background
- Experience managing both company drivers and brokerage operations is considered an asset
- Safety management experience is highly desirable
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn transportation management systems
- A collaborative, hands-on leadership style with a commitment to employee development and customer satisfaction
