About the Opportunity
SFRL is seeking a highly experienced Retail Channel Development Manager to lead the expansion of our products into brick-and-mortar retail channels.
This is a senior business development role for someone who has direct experience taking consumer products from early-stage market entry into retail stores, distributors, wholesalers, and multi-location retail groups.
We are not looking for a general salesperson. We are looking for someone who understands how retail buying works, how SKU onboarding works, how buyer presentations are structured, and what is required to get a product accepted into physical stores.
The successful candidate should be able to build a retail placement strategy, contact decision-makers, open distribution conversations, and guide the company through the full retail readiness process.
Role Objective
The primary objective of this role is to secure retail, wholesale, and distribution placements for SFRL products by identifying opportunities, engaging buyers, negotiating terms, and guiding products through the placement process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute retail market-entry and distribution strategies for SFRL products.
- Identify, qualify, and engage retail buyers, distributors, wholesalers, brokers, and strategic channel partners.
- Secure meetings, build relationships, and create opportunities with key decision-makers.
- Lead product placement efforts, including buyer presentations, negotiations, and account onboarding.
- Advise on retail readiness, including packaging, pricing, UPC/SKU setup, margins, and buyer materials.
- Build and manage a pipeline of retail and distribution opportunities from initial outreach through placement.
- Track activities, buyer feedback, and opportunity status, providing regular updates to senior management.
- Recommend strategies to improve product positioning, market penetration, and placement success.
Required Experience
- Ability to work independently and drive results
- 7+ years of experience in retail product placement, CPG sales, wholesale distribution, retail buyer outreach, broker sales, account management, or related fields.
- Proven success securing retail placements, distribution agreements, or wholesale partnerships.
- Strong relationships with retail buyers, distributors, brokers, category managers, or purchasing decision-makers.
- Experience guiding products through retail onboarding, vendor setup, and placement processes.
- Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, and business development skills.
- Ability to work independently and drive opportunities from initial outreach through successful placement.
Compensation
Flexible compensation structure based on experience and engagement model, including contract, full-time, commission, partnership, or performance-based arrangements.
