We have an exciting full-time opportunity for an Electrical Engineer in Training with a focus on electrical systems design (protection, control, and apparatus) within our Edmonton Engineering team. Reporting to the Consulting Engineer, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing Engineering, and occasional Field support for projects in the heavy industrial, petrochemical, and oil sectors; ultimately providing superior client experiences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Electrical System Design & Analysis
- Assist in designing electrical power systems, control circuits, grounding systems, and communication wiring for complex industrial and infrastructure facilities

Perform engineering calculations (e.g., load flow, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis) to support safe and efficient system operation

Support the development of single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, cable schedules, and layout drawings in collaboration with senior engineers
Project Engineering and Execution
- Contribute to project planning and coordination by supporting scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking

Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and construction teams to ensure technical compliance with design specifications and engineering codes

Perform field inspections and site reviews to verify conformance to design intent, applicable regulations (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code), and safety standards
Technical Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare technical documentation such as engineering reports, construction packages, testing procedures, and quality assurance checklists

Record and analyze field data for inclusion in engineering reports used for system validation and commissioning

Review as-built drawings and contribute to documentation updates post-installation
Field Engineering and Testing Support
- Oversee and assist in on-site testing and commissioning of electrical systems, including functional tests, grounding checks, and control logic validation

Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during installation and startup phases by applying engineering problem-solving methods

Document test results and provide engineering assessments to verify system integrity and performance
Engineering Standards, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with CSA standards, Canadian Electrical Code, OH&S regulations, and environmental guidelines

Contribute to risk assessments and hazard identification during project execution phases

Participate in internal audits and reviews of safety practices, and propose engineering solutions for identified issues
Professional Development and Mentorship
- Work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) while progressively taking on more engineering responsibility as part of APEGS EIT development

Participate in professional development activities, project reviews, and mentorship programs to enhance engineering skills in preparation for licensure
Innovation and Continuous Improvemen
- Identify opportunities for improvements in system performance, energy efficiency, and cost reduction through engineering design optimization

Support implementation of innovative solutions such as automation technologies, renewable integration, or smart monitoring systems
- BSc Electrical Engineering with 1 to 4 years of electrical engineering or technical field services experience or Electrical Engineering Technologist accreditation with 1 to 6 years of electrical experience

Working towards APEGA Professional Engineer designation, or registered CET with ASET with interest in attaining P. Tech

Experience in developing and interpreting results from ETAP power system simulation software is an asset

Must have a valid driver’s license
