Respite Caregiver (Independent Contractor)
Job Description
We are seeking compassionate and dependable Respite Caregivers to provide short‑term care and supervision for children and youth. This is a contract position, and caregivers are engaged as independent contractors (not employees).
This role is ideal for individuals looking for flexible hours while making a meaningful impact by supporting children and families in the community.
Schedule & Availability
Caregivers may be scheduled during one or more of the following times:
- Before school
- After school
- Evenings
- Weekends
Availability varies based on family needs.
Transportation (Strongly Recommended)
- Having a valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle is strongly recommended
- Many assignments require supporting clients across Edmonton and surrounding areas.
- Candidates who are able and willing to drive may have access to more frequent or varied shifts
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, attentive, and supportive care
- Supervise daily routines and activities
- Transport children or youth when required (for those who drive)
- Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Engage children in age‑appropriate activities
- Follow care plans and family guidelines
- Communicate clearly with families and coordinators
Qualifications
- Experience working with children or youth (professional or personal)
- Patient, reliable, and able to work independently
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check (required)
Experience supporting children with emotional, behavioural, or additional needs is an asset.
Contract Position – Important Information
This role is a contractor (non‑employee) position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and statutory deductions.
