We are a family-owned bakery located in Hagersville, Ontario. Committed to crafting high-quality, naturally leavened bread using traditional baking techniques, we use the finest ingredients and methods for our products. As our business expands, we are seeking passionate and experienced people to join our team.
We are looking for a night shift bakery assistant with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year experience in a commercial kitchen or food premises, and a strong commitment to producing exceptional products.
Applicants must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday and on rare occasions (ie. holiday season, special events), Sundays. Typical start time is 4am with occasional start times as early as 2am during heavy production periods. Shift end times also vary but generally end between 11am - 1pm (depending on production required). Hours of work are generally between 25-35 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Bread Production: Assist in prep/production of various sourdough breads and bagels, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to our standards.
- Pastry Production: Prep/production and proper storage of scones, cookies, pastry and other sweet items.
- Baking: Operation of deck oven and convection ovens, training will be provided.
- Packaging and Slicing Bread: Packaging bread and bagels for wholesale customers, labelling and placing dates on products for retail sale. Operation of commercial bread slicer.
- Inventory Management: Manage ingredients inventory, ensuring fresh and sufficient supplies for daily production.
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of baking equipment and workspaces. Dishwashing, mopping, wiping surfaces, organizing supplies, fridges and freezers.
- Customer Interaction: Occasionally interact with customers to share knowledge and passion for artisan bread. Maintaining customer records and following up on customer orders as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a bakery, restaurant or commercial food preparation facility. Preference will be given to those with pastry, baking or culinary training. Up-to-date food handler certification required before starting.
- Skills: Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Passion: A genuine passion for bread, pastry and a commitment to quality.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy bags of flour, sugar etc (22kg) and standing for long periods.
