Overview
Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Finance Director will lead the Finance team and play a key role in supporting Farm Boy’s business, financial, and operational objectives. This position is responsible for business partnering, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making across Corporate and Retail Operations.
The Finance Director will act as a trusted advisor to Senior Management and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring accurate financial information, strong processes, and continuous improvement while delivering a quality service approach to employees, customers, and suppliers.
What You’ll Be Focusing On
- Support Corporate and Retail Operations through financial analysis, insights, and strategic business development initiatives.
- Lead and oversee the Finance Department to ensure the accuracy of accounting and financial records, as well as the timely preparation of internal financial reporting and reporting required by Empire.
- Partner with Senior Management in preparation for Board of Directors meetings and key business reviews.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support business and operational financial objectives.
- Oversee month-end close processes, periodic and annual financial statements, and other financial reporting deliverables to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
- Identify and recommend best practices to enhance Farm Boy’s financial tools, reporting capabilities, systems, and processes.
- Perform financial analysis and provide ongoing recommendations to identify sales and profitability opportunities within the Retail business.
- Support the annual budgeting process and prepare year-end working papers for external auditors.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of financial processes, providing timely and insightful analysis and recommendations to management.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing Finance team by fostering collaboration, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary liaison with Empire’s external auditors.
What You Should Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, along with a CPA or CA designation.
- 10+ years of progressive Finance experience.
- Previous experience in a traditional retail and/or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a solution-oriented mindset and the ability to champion change.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience implementing and enhancing financial systems, processes, tools, and control frameworks.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment while managing tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
- Proficiency in English and French would be considered an asset.
