Warehouse Picker
We are looking for friendly, reliable, hardworking, and team-oriented Warehouse Pickers who can alternate between our Bayers Lake and Dartmouth Crossing locations. The Warehouse Picker fulfills grocery orders from a detailed shopping list provided by the store team leader. Items are picked from retail warehouse shelves into shopping carts and onto flatbeds, then brought to a staging area where goods are efficiently packed onto pallets for transport.
Warehouse Pickers work in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines, requiring strong attention to detail, the ability to walk or stand for extended periods, and frequent lifting of items up to 50 lbs. Work in designated refrigerated or freezer sections may also be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Order Picking: Use inventory lists or smartphones to receive orders and locate items (fresh produce, frozen, dry goods) on supermarket shelves.
- Quality Check: Sort items by temperature zone (frozen, refrigerated, dry), check expiration dates to select the best products, and place items securely onto shopping flatbeds to prevent damage.
- Order Accuracy: Verify that items picked match the customer’s order list to avoid errors. Substitute out-of-stock items with similar products as needed.
- Submitting Orders: Move completed orders into designated staging areas for checkout and transport.
- Safety: Manoeuvre shopping carts and flatbeds safely in a busy environment, place picked goods securely to prevent falling and keep store aisles unobstructed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Physical and Mental Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy items up to 50 lbs; capable of managing high-volume foot traffic and stressful situations.
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in selecting the correct goods and quantities.
- Tech Savviness: Proficiency with smartphones and inventory apps; comfortable with computers and AI tools, or willing to learn.
- Time Management: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet delivery schedules.
- Customer-Focused: Commitment to high-quality service with a can-do attitude, professionalism, and friendliness even in stressful situations.
Hours of Work and Compensation
- Hours: Regular start time is 9:00 AM at either the Bayers Lake or Dartmouth Crossing location (typically Dartmouth Crossing)
- Flexibility: Work schedules vary from 20 to 30 hours per week. As the organization grows, the position may expand to full-time (40 hours per week).
- Wages: $20-$21 per hour, with a 4-hour daily minimum.
