Vision of Hope Resource Centre (VOHRC) is seeking a qualified and experienced Sewing Facilitator to lead a 10-week Textile Upcycling Program. This program is designed to equip youth and young adults with practical sewing, textile, and upcycling skills.
The facilitator will be responsible for delivering structured, hands-on sessions that introduce participants to both foundational and intermediate sewing techniques while fostering a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The facilitator will work with the Program Coordinator to plan and develop the project curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Lead weekly sewing sessions covering sewing machine basics, hand-stitching, pattern use, and textile upcycling techniques
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to design and refine weekly lesson plans and skill-building activities
- Provide clear demonstrations of sewing methods, safe equipment use, and creative upcycling processes
- Offer individualized guidance and encourage creative problem-solving
- Ensure proper use of tools, uphold safety protocols, and maintain an organized workspace
- Organize supplies and project materials ahead of each session
- Monitor skill development and provide constructive feedback
- Cultivate a welcoming, respectful, and empowering space for youth and young adults of diverse backgrounds
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching sewing
- Strong knowledge of sewing machines, hand-sewing, garment repair, and textile upcycling
- Ability to create structured lesson plans and hands-on learning activities
- Experience working with youth and young adults is an asset
- Strong communication, patience, and facilitation skills
- Commitment to fostering creativity, confidence, and community
- Experienced self-starter and independent worker
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
- Clear Criminal Reference Check and valid CPR/First Aid
Contract: 10 weeks
