Junior Welder – Full-Time, Fixed-Term Contract (Maple Ridge, BC)
Innovative Parts & Solutions Ltd. (IPS) is a Canadian manufacturer of railroad tools, maintenance-of-way equipment, and custom fabricated products. We are seeking a motivated Junior Welder to join our fabrication team and support our welding and manufacturing operations.
Working under the supervision of the Fabrication Shop Lead Hand, you will assist with the welding, fabrication, and assembly of our product line while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
This is a full-time, fixed-term contract position ending December 24, 2026. Registered welding apprentices and candidates with welding experience are encouraged to apply. Subject to business needs and performance, there may be future opportunities for continued employment with IPS.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in the fabrication, welding, and assembly of railroad tools and equipment.
· Perform MIG welding and other fabrication tasks as required.
· Operate welding equipment safely and effectively.
· Read and interpret basic drawings, work instructions, and fabrication requirements.
· Use grinders, saws, drills, and other hand and power tools safely.
· Assist with fitting, measuring, and preparing materials for production.
· Perform quality checks to ensure products meet IPS quality standards.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
· Assist with preventative maintenance of shop equipment.
· Report production issues or concerns to the Fabrication Shop Lead Hand.
· Support completion of production schedules and customer orders.
Continuous Improvement
· Support and maintain IPS's 5S workplace organization program.
· Identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve manufacturing processes.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Welding experience is required; MIG welding experience is preferred.
· Registered welding apprentices (any level) are encouraged to apply.
· 1–2 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience is considered an asset.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
· Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
· Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
· Knowledge of 5S or Lean Manufacturing principles is an asset.
