The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent is currently seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Casual Respite Workers. This rewarding role provides meaningful support to children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs while offering families valuable respite services. Hours are varied and determined by family needs, with opportunities available during the day, evenings, weekdays, and weekends. Services are provided throughout Chatham-Kent, and successful candidates must be willing to travel to communities across the municipality as required.
About the Role
Under the guidance of the Respite Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide temporary care and support to children and youth, giving caregivers the opportunity to take time for themselves—whether for personal needs, rest, or other responsibilities impacted by caregiving duties. As a Respite Worker, you will deliver high-quality, client-centered care on an as-needed basis, supporting the well-being of both the clients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement in home respite as outlined in the Respite Intake Form.
- Review and document any changes to the client care plan
- To maintain a safe working environment
- To follow CTC-CK policies, procedures and protocols
- Engage clients in meaningful, leisure activities in the home and community (going for walks, playing at the park, etc)
- Assist client with daily routines, including eating, dressing, bathing
- Willing to provide services throughout Chatham-Kent, including the communities of Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury, Wheatley, etc. As needed, transporting clients in personal vehicle with family provided car seat.
What We’re Looking For
- Certification or Equivalent Education in the one of the following programs; Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Child & Youth Worker (CYW). **Consideration to be made to students in the final year of applicable college programs
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities (physical and/or cognitive)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to display sound judgement in various situations and at the same time, demonstrate sensitivity to client/family needs.
Additional Details
- Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, insured vehicle, and adequate liability insurance.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Clearance
- Current Standard 1st Aid/CPR Certificate
Compensation & Hours
- $25.00 per hour
