TOOLING ASSISTANT - POSITION SUMMARY
Eastside Industrial is looking for a hands-on Tooling Assistant.
This position will assist in all aspects of the Tool Making Process, which includes but is not limited to prepping plugs, applying gelcoat, cutting and applying fibreglass and reinforcement material to construct or repair tooling. In addition to this, the final cleaning of the tools and application of the release coatings per applicable standard procedures and work instructions will also be required prior to the tools being released to the manufacturing departments. This job is for a reliable, hard-working individual who has a high level of attention to detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work independently and efficiently while being focused on Safety and Continuous improvement aspects

PLEASE NOTE: OUR LOCATION CANNOT BE ACCESSED BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working in a safe manner and following all safety rules.
- Receive and unpackage CNC produced plugs / tools using electric or pneumatic tools
- Assist with the application of gel coat
- Measure and mix catalyst and resins together based on manufacturers specifications
- Select and cut fiberglass mat and press / or lay mat over the gel coated plug / tool
- Laminations , HLU and spray up.
- Apply activated resin over the fibreglass and roll / brush the resin ensuring full saturation and all air voids have been removed
- Utilizing electric and pneumatic tools, cut and apply bracing materials and/or lifting hardware over the completed tool
- Demold (Remove) the tool from the plug and trim excess fiberglass from edges
- Inspect tools to ensure it meets required specifications and repair any defects present based on standard repair process
- Clean tools and apply necessary release chemicals based on manufacturers recommendations
- Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications
- Keep all work areas including part storage area clean and organized, emptying scrap and garbage containers as necessary
- Cleaning and maintaining work tools such as rollers, brushes, grinders, electric tools and other pieces of equipment.
- Cleaning and maintaining safety equipment such as respirators and dust masks.
- Maintain all quality standards in accordance with the specifications for each job in order to meet customer requirements
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple duties/projects at one time, work independently with minimal supervision, and resolve conflict in a professional manner. This is a high demanding positions with tight deadlines
- Maintains open communication and a team-oriented work environment with all departments and all levels of personnel
- Adhere to all start / end times including break and lunch schedules
- Willingness to work in other areas of the facility as required
- Performs additional duties as deemed necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred: High school diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program
- Preferred: 6 months of related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Possess knowledge of and ability to identify and work with FRP Materials, machining tools/equipment
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks
- Takes initiative and is a self-starter
- Demonstrates flexibility and professionalism throughout the day
- Ability to wear ½ mask face Respirator while performing specified work tasks
- Position requires physical requirements including lifting, pushing/pulling, lifting, bending/stretching and standing.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed to meet customer and production needs

This position reports to the Manufacturing Project Manager
HOURS
Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
