SUMMARY: Reporting to the Front of House management team (Bar Manager, General Manager), the Server interacts with our VIP clients and regular guests, ensuring a positive dining experience when visiting, all while exemplifying a warm, friendly disposition paired with a polished approach. At all times the Server makes guests feel welcome, important, and relaxed by being proactive and attentive to their needs. As the primary point of contact for their guests, the Server must remain vigilant about the guests’ satisfaction throughout their service and act accordingly.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations
- Stay updated on current menu items, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen is running out of any items, and note any daily menu features
- Be aware of any special requests, inclusive of guest allergies
- Ensure food is delivered to accurate seat numbers; food is never to be auctioned off
- Introduce each dish presented to diners with a high degree of detail
- Monitor the cleanliness of your section and ensure all materials and areas are clean and free from clutter
- Clear each table at the end of a course in a quiet, seamless fashion; with teammate(s) for larger tables so it is done in one trip
- Replenish mise en place, refill glasses, fold napkins, tidy debris, maintain tables as needed
- Practice a high level of floor awareness and clear/clean as required
- Communicate to all Servers any comments or information provided by guests in and outside of you section to ensure a positive, memorable experience; negative feedback is provided to the Manager on Duty promptly after service recovery is initiated
- Properly open and pour wine tableside
- Greet all guests and owners warmly with an appropriate greeting
- Verify bill accuracy and thank guests before final bill
- Fill in for absent staff as needed, jump in and lead assistance where service dictates, upholding the restaurant integrity
- Identify key individualized “hospitality” moments for guest to increase the value of our service.
- Be an advocate for the brand highlighting “specialty events we may be hosting and increasing brand awareness
Sales Oriented
- Answer questions about food, beverage, wine and other restaurant functions and services; explain/romance the menu concept and style when necessary
- Make thoughtful food and wine suggestions; ring in accordingly and accurately on specific seat numbers
- Communicate with Management and Hosts to maximize seating
- Obtain revenues, issue accurate receipts, accept payments, return change promptly
Housekeeping
- Set the dining room and detail the aesthetics of pre-service set up
- Inspect all tables for proper mise en place, cleanliness and completeness
- Oversee the proper set up and tear down of side stations and coffee station (if applicable)
- Oversee condiments and dairy freshness and that the fridges are stocked with milk, cream, butter etc. (if applicable)
- Monitor food quality and presentation standards
- Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food contamination and the methods of prevention
- Follow all food safety standards and systems
- Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor
- Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently
- Attend training sessions and meetings when required
- Other duties as assigned or required by management
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Certification from an accredited Post-Secondary Institute in Hospitality, Restaurant Management, Business Administration, or related major, an asset
- Smart Serve certification required
- 3+ years of experience in upscale food and beverage management
- Experience with POS systems including Toast, OpenTable
- Ability to work and stand for long periods of time and possible extended distances
- Ability to frequently lift or carry up to 25-40lbs
- To provide flexible availability in schedules including afternoons, evenings, and holidays
- Excellent knowledge of product trends and current awareness of industry standards
- Passion for service excellence and a commitment to creating an exceptional dining experience
- Proven leader with strong communication and conflict management skills
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Available to work an adjusted work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays, if necessary, to meet company operating and project demands
- WSET or similar wine training an asset
Pay: $17.85 per hour
