Our client is a well-established manufacturer in the
Hamilton / Niagara corridor that designs and builds custom automated equipment and engineered production solutions.
This is a highly technical, build-to-order environment where no two projects are the same. Mechanical design, controls, manufacturing, assembly, service, and project management work closely together to deliver complex equipment solutions.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership and have a direct impact on engineering standards, project execution, team performance, and the future direction of the design function.
Engineering Manager Responsibilities:
- Providing day-to-day leadership to a mechanical design team
- Keeping engineering work moving by setting priorities, removing roadblocks, and ensuring deadlines are met
- Acting as a senior technical resource on complex custom equipment and automation projects
- Reviewing design work to ensure it is practical, manufacturable, accurate, and aligned with customer expectations
- Helping the team solve design issues, technical challenges, and build-related problems
- Bringing consistency and structure to engineering standards, processes, and documentation
- Working closely with shop floor, controls, assembly, service, project management, and leadership teams
- Ensuring engineering output supports quality, safety, budget, schedule, and successful project delivery
The successful candidate has:
- A licensed Professional Engineer with strong mechanical design depth
- 4+ years' experience leading, coaching, and developing technical design and engineering teams
- Hands-on background designing custom machinery, automation equipment, capital equipment, or engineered-to-order systems
- Strong SolidWorks capability and the ability to review, challenge, and improve technical designs
- Experience creating structure in an engineering department through standards, processes, documentation, and continuous improvement
- A practical, collaborative leader who can work closely with production, controls, assembly, project management, and senior leadership
- Someone who can balance people leadership with technical problem-solving in a fast-paced custom manufacturing environment
Compensation and benefits:
- The discussed salary range is $145,000 to $155,000 pa, depending on experience
