Job Description:
The Department of General Education stewards the liberal education requirement at Mount Royal University. All students enrolled in degree programs at the institution take up to twenty-five percent of their courses from general education. General Education courses at MRU engage four general clusters that are relevant to all students: Cluster One - Numeracy and Scientific Literacy; Cluster Two - Values, Beliefs and Identity; Cluster Three - Communities and Societies; and, Cluster Four - Communications. The Department of General Education has jurisdiction over first year courses in the General Education provision, while a majority of the remaining courses are offered by academic units across the university. The Department also houses the Undergraduate Studies courses.
The Department of General Education invites applications for contract lecturer appointments to teach:
- For the Winter 2027 semester, the course is scheduled for in-classroom delivery, on-campus.
Effective Learning in the Undergraduate Context provides students with opportunities to increase their knowledge of effective learning, enhance their use of strategies, and reflect on their learning. Activities and assignments in a collaborative classroom setting will facilitate the application of concepts from research to the students’ own learning.
Instruction
- preparation of the course outline
- facilitating all assigned classes/content modules for the semester
- class/content module preparation
- creation of assessments of student learning
- examination invigilation and grading of tests and assignments
- development and maintenance of the course D2L site
Administration
- in-person and online communication with students
- availability for in-person or online meetings with students outside of class time
- input of final grades on course completion
- participation in scheduled course meetings with UEO coordinator
- All applicants need a minimum Master’s degree.
- Preference will be given to applicants with educational and/or experiential backgrounds in Education, Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Learning Sciences, or university teaching and learning (e.g. educational development; student learning support).
