Krentz & Hedman is a client-focused law firm dedicated to family law matters. We are looking for a Family Law Associate Lawyer to manage and support a diverse caseload involving family law matters such as divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, property division, adoption, child protection, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Representation: Provide legal counsel, representation, and advocacy for clients in family law cases.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth legal research on family law issues, precedents, and current legislation to support case preparation and provide accurate legal advice.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload efficiently, including preparing case files, drafting legal documents, and ensuring timely and accurate filing of documents with the courts.
- Negotiation and Settlement: Advocate for clients in settlement negotiations, mediations, and collaborative law processes, with a focus on achieving favorable outcomes for clients while minimizing conflict.
- Court Appearances: Represent clients in court hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials, as necessary.
- Client Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with clients, keeping them informed of case progress, explaining legal options, and providing support during difficult legal proceedings.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Prepare and maintain thorough and accurate case documentation, correspondence, and legal filings to ensure proper legal procedures are followed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior lawyers, paralegals, and other support staff to ensure the efficient and effective management of cases.
- Professional Development: Stay current on developments in family law and continue professional growth through ongoing education, training, and attendance at relevant seminars.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in British Columbia.
- Be a member of good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
- Litigation experience
- Knowledge and experience with the CFCSA and child protection matters is an asset
- Strong understanding of family law, legal procedures, and court systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
