Job Overview
Unionville College is seeking a hands-on, versatile IT Specialist to join our Technology department. This is not a desk-bound network administration role, our ideal candidate splits their time between systems support and physical infrastructure work across our campus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to students and staff, triaging and resolving day-to-day hardware, software, and network issues
- Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and related systems
- Get hands-on with technology infrastructure projects, including cabling, equipment mounting, and supporting technology work tied to construction and renovation projects alongside facilities staff and contractors
- Support and maintain VOIP telecommunications systems
- Assist with the deployment and upkeep of building systems technology, including security and monitoring infrastructure
- Support cloud and on-premise server environments (Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra, VMware/Hyper-V, domain and print servers)
- Manage user accounts and access in Active Directory in line with security requirements
- Maintain documentation, inventory, and vendor/contractor coordination for technology projects
- Contribute to the department's ongoing technology planning and refresh cycles
Qualifications and Experience:
- A related university degree or diploma, with experience in networking and IT support
- Comfort with physical, hands-on work alongside contractors and tradespeople as needed
- Experience with or strong interest in learning VOIP systems and low-voltage infrastructure work (e.g., network/camera cabling)
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN technology, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and related protocols
- Experience with Windows and Mac OS X client/server administration and user identity management
- Experience with server virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V)
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 administration
- A flexible, team-oriented approach, some work may fall outside regular business hours, particularly around construction timelines or emergency maintenance
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a school community
- Microsoft or Apple certified systems administration credentials is considered an asset
- Firewall/VPN experience is considered an asset
- Experience with network backup and antivirus/filtering systems is considered an asset
