Role Overview
We are seeking a dependable and motivated Plant Operator to join our operations team in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will support processing and maintenance operations within our agricultural commodities and food processing facility while ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and food safety standards are consistently maintained.
This is a hands-on role requiring mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Plant Operator will assist with equipment operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and support processing and splitting equipment safely and efficiently
- Assist in maintaining daily plant operations and ensuring production targets are achieved
- Provide support to processing staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Assist with preventive maintenance activities on motors, conveyor systems, production machinery, and related plant equipment
- Troubleshoot operational and mechanical issues under the guidance of maintenance and operations leadership
- Learn and operate hand and power tools including drills, grinders, presses, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools
- Assist in equipment fabrication, assembly, disassembly, and replacement of defective components
- Monitor equipment performance and report operational concerns or maintenance requirements
- Complete daily production logs, maintenance records, and operational documentation accurately
- Assist with loading, unloading, lifting, carrying, and transporting tools and materials to work areas
- Respond to operational and emergency situations as required, including occasional support outside regular working hours
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency and equipment reliability
- Follow all company maintenance policies, procedures, and operational guidelines
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety standards and all applicable legislation
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, food safety, SQF, and company quality standards at all times
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and management teams to support plant objectives
Qualifications
- Previous experience in manufacturing, food processing, agricultural commodities, or industrial operations is preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn plant equipment and maintenance processes
- Experience using hand and power tools is considered an asset
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Strong understanding of workplace safety practices
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively
- Forklift certification or experience is considered an asset
- Welding or mechanical maintenance experience is considered an asset
- Previous experience in a grain handling or grain facility environment is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours or overtime when operationally required
- Experience using SCADA systems.
