Desired Abilities, Qualifications and Experience
- Specialization and/or experience in teaching students English at the secondary level.
- A commitment and demonstrated ability to nurture a school culture that is inclusive and focused on the learning needs of diverse learners.
- Knowledge and sensitivity of BC First Nations.
- Knowledge of initiatives and promising practices with regard to Indigenous education.
- Current knowledge of research driven instructional and assessment strategies.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
- Able to cultivate and maintain relationships with students, staff members, parents, and the community.
- Supportive of a wide variety of learning strategies.
- Knowledgeable about the role of technology to support learning.

Our school
Bella Bella Community School (BBCS) offers Nursery to Grade 12 to both Heiltsuk and non-Heiltsuk students and is accredited as a BC Ministry of Education Independent School and is certified with the First Nations Schools Association. There are 300 students enrolled at our school. The focus is on learning, and there are plenty of resources to support teaching. Our class sizes are small, each of our classrooms has a SMART board and we are well equipped technology wise. There is a Heiltsuk Language and Culture program, as well as SEAS (Supporting Emerging Aboriginal Stewards)-BBCS incorporates land-based education through these programs. The SEAS initiative brings together school staff, mentors, community organizations and educational partners to provide opportunities for students to learn about and directly experience the lands, waters, and harvest cycles of their traditional Haíɫzaqv territories.
Bella Bella (Waglisla) is located on BC's Central Coast in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest!
