The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of OPACCA or Critical Care course equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Intensive Care Unit a minimum of 2 years of experience in a charge nurse capacity. Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and diligence with the ability to work in a fast paced, stressful, challenging environment. Be self-directed, action-oriented, demonstrate quick problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills. Exhibit strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a stressful and evolving work environment. Exhibit strong ability for attention to detail. Exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a leadership role. Proven problem solving, conflict management and critical thinking skills. Committee involvement and situational awareness. Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Completion of LEADS courses.
