Trades College: RENOVATION CONTRACTOR INSTRUCTOR
Kensington Trades College, Mississauga Campus, is looking for a RENOVATION CONTRACTOR INSTRUCTOR for our ministry-registered diploma program. Diploma training is 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. We have three shifts for diploma training. Instructors could be hired for one or two of these shifts each day, making the role either part time or full time, depending on the number of cohorts assigned:
- Morning 9am to 1pm
- Afternoon 1:30pm to 5:30pm
- Evening 6pm to 10pm
The diploma program is four months long, so we are looking for a commitment of a minimum of four months, with a strong possibility to transition into a permanent position. Diploma instructors may wish to supplement their hours by also teaching occasional workshops.
We provide our diploma instructors with a training manual with required lesson topics, a textbook, assignments, exams, handouts, and/or PowerPoints, depending on the course. We also provide the necessary tools and materials to deliver the training at our campus. All Kensington Trades programs are delivered on campus (no online training for this program).
Diploma programs are registered with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Applicants to be an instructor must have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the trade
- Typed resume showing the experience to deliver hands-on training
- 2 written letters of reference from past employers or clients
- Diploma, degree, or certification (if any are required for the trade)
- Instructor qualification standards as outlined in the Regulations to Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005 (ask us for a copy)
We are looking for instructors who display:
- Enthusiasm and passion for teaching, professional conduct
- Ability to follow the provided resources to train students with the required knowledge and skills to prepare them for employment in the field
- Basic computer skills to run PowerPoints, create invoices, and enter grades
- Patience, flexibility, and cultural awareness to work with new learners
- Ability to avoid and resolve student complaints with a positive attitude
- Maintain confidentiality of student privacy and information
- Verbal and written communication skills to present the training in a fun and informative way, in English only, and an ability to adapt to different learning styles
- Positive reinforcement and constructive educational feedback
- Maturity to work autonomously without a lot of supervision
- Experience teaching or effectively leading renovation projects is preferable

- HVAC Fundamentals
- Structural Build (fully hands on build, 10 weeks)
This opportunity is ideal for someone with experience in renovations and/or being a contractor or subcontractor who wants to share your knowledge and experience with eager students. We generally have small class sizes (5-10 students) with a strong focus on hands-on learning for new learners.
Compensation
- $25 to $30 per hour, based on experience
