Property Manager / Maintenance Coordinator
SMJ Youth Services is seeking a skilled, reliable, and self-motivated Property Manager / Maintenance Coordinator to oversee the upkeep, maintenance, and presentation of our residential properties. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our homes remain safe, functional, compliant, and well-maintained for the youth and staff we support.
The successful candidate will serve as SMJ's primary maintenance and property resource, coordinating repairs, performing hands-on maintenance, managing contractors, and proactively identifying issues before they become major problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of residential homes, offices, vehicles, and outdoor spaces.
- Perform general repairs and maintenance including drywall, painting, flooring, trim work, doors, windows, basic plumbing, and minor electrical repairs.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks to reduce unexpected repairs and costs.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and service providers.
- Maintain property standards and ensure all locations remain clean, safe, and presentable.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and urgent repair requests.
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, power tools, trailers, and small machinery.
- Assist with seasonal property maintenance including snow removal, lawn care, and groundskeeping.
- Track maintenance schedules, repair logs, and inventory of tools and supplies.
- Assist with renovations, property improvements, and special projects as required.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with management, staff, contractors, and external vendors regarding maintenance needs and project updates.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of basic construction methods, building systems, and residential property maintenance.
- Experience in general carpentry, repairs, renovations, or a related trade.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve common maintenance issues independently.
- Comfortable operating hand tools, power tools, trailers, lawn equipment, skid steers, mini excavators, and other small machinery.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, and performing manual labour.
- Experience working with contractors and coordinating projects is considered an asset.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel between SMJ properties as required.
- Criminal Record Check acceptable to SMJ Youth Services.
- Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency maintenance calls.
