Bouling Metals is looking for a Junior CAD Designer / Drafter to join our growing team in Stoney Creek, Ontario. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a career in fabrication, drafting, and design while gaining hands-on experience working on real projects from concept through production. Bouling Metals is a small custom fabrication shop located in Stoney Creek, with 10-15 employees. We specialize in welding/fabrication of carbon steel and alloys.
The successful candidate will work directly with management and the shop foreman to create and revise drawings for custom fabricated steel products and assemblies using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor Professional. This role will support projects from the quoting and design stage through fabrication and production.
Responsibilities:
- Create and modify 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor Professional
- Produce fabrication drawings, shop drawings, layouts, and assembly drawings
- Re-create and convert customer-supplied drawings into production-ready manufacturing drawings
- Assist with developing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Design fixtures and jigs to improve fabrication efficiency and consistency
- Support process improvements and workflow optimization initiatives
- Review drawings for accuracy and manufacturability
- Coordinate with shop personnel to resolve design and production issues
- Maintain drawing revisions and project documentation
- Provide drawing and project support as required
Qualifications:
- Diploma or education in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD Design, Drafting, or a related field preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD required
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor Professional considered a strong asset
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings
- Experience with structural steel, mold design, or custom fabrication/manufacturing environments considered a strong asset
- Understanding of welding, machining, and fabrication methods considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
