Job Description
The Home Hardware Truck Driver is responsible for delivering orders to customers, vendors, job sites, and other corporate locations. Duties include operating freight handling equipment, maintenance and operation of company vehicles, verification of administrative paperwork, and working with the public at large. Truck Drivers must safely perform all assigned tasks with speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impacts on the level of customer service provided.
Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive Selkirk Home Hardware Building Centre trucks and delivery vehicles in compliance with store policy and the Highway Traffic Act.
- Maintain frequent communication with the Shipper
- Maintain inspection records, reporting company vehicle maintenance needs to the Yard Operations Manager
- Conduct and document pre-trip inspections
- Move heavy and bulky merchandise for customers and sales personnel.
- Advise supervisor of shortages or damaged goods
- Ensure all cargo is safely secured before travel
- Follow proper documentation procedures for any merchandise that is to be returned or refused
- Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
- Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Class 3 license with air brake endorsement
- Clear and current driver's abstract
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
- Ability to read and comprehend written and printed materials, as well as information presented in numerical form
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with both customers and staff
- Ability to operate a forklift and crane
- Must provide own safety boots (steel toe or composite)
- 6 months of flatbed driving experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to throw up to 8 pounds
- Ability to sit/drive for prolonged periods
- Repetitive movements include lifting and twisting
Working Relationships:
- This position reports directly to the Yard Personnel Manager
- This position works closely with the yard's Shipper
