The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Junior Contaminated Sites Specialist to our Environment & Water - Geoenvironmental team based in Calgary, AB.
This is a hybrid office and field-based role that may require travel throughout Alberta and other jurisdictions. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of environmental scientists and engineers committed to mentorship, technical development, and professional growth. We are seeking someone with 1–3 years of contaminated sites experience who is comfortable with both fieldwork and office-based reporting.

Your Role:

Provide support on simple to complex contaminated site investigations (e.g., Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, Detailed Site Investigations), groundwater monitoring, and remediation activities at urban and remote field sites.

Provide support on hydrogeological assessments.

Oversee drill rig and heavy equipment to describe and collect quality soil samples.

Groundwater and surface water sampling.

Conduct soil classification and terrain surveys, including soil sampling, analyzing field data and mapping soil according to the Canadian System of Soil Classification.

Remediation and spill response oversight.

Review field data and provide initial data interpretations.

Work with intermediate and senior technical staff to deliver high quality products to meet our client’s specific needs.

Prepare technical correspondence, work plans, cost estimates and budgets as part of a proposal or project.

Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.

Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Ability, willingness and comfort with travel to and working at remote project sites across Yukon and Western Canada.

Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
-
Diploma in Environmental Technology / Applied Sciences or a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.

1–3 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on contaminated sites investigations.

Registered in Alberta, or eligible and working toward professional registration.

Strong written communication and technical report writing skills.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate project activities.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current driver’s abstract required at time of application.

Willingness and ability to perform field work locally and at remote sites; field work will make up approximately 80% of the role.

Physically capable of performing manual labour duties.

Strong attention to detail.

Familiarity with the Alberta Contaminated Sites Regulation and federal Environmental guidelines is an asset.
