We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to deliver high-quality instruction focused on Ontario curriculum expectations and EQAO preparation. The successful candidate will help students strengthen their reading, writing, language, and communication skills while building confidence for the EQAO assessments. The ideal candidate is engaging, organized, and committed to helping students achieve academic success.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons aligned with the Ontario Language Curriculum and EQAO expectations.
- Teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing skills.
- Prepare students for the EQAO assessment using practice questions, mock tests, and targeted skill development.
- Assess students' strengths and learning needs and develop individualized learning plans.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents.
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Develop lesson plans, worksheets, and instructional materials.
- Encourage critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Maintain accurate attendance and student progress records.
- Collaborate with other instructors and management to improve instructional programs.
- Participate in parent meetings and provide recommendations for continued learning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) is an asset but not required.
- Previous experience teaching English or tutoring students in Grades 1–9.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Language Curriculum and EQAO assessment framework.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to motivate students with diverse learning styles.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching EQAO preparation courses.
- Experience working in tutoring centres or after-school academic programs.
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inquiry-based learning.
- Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELL) is an asset.
