Summary
The Health and Safety Coordinator provides direct, hands-on support to operations and project teams across industrial facilities and active project sites in Ontario and Quebec, regarding Health and Safety for 4 main buildings all related to heating and cooling systems (power plant), as well as supporting new and existing projects.
This role is field-focused and works closely with supervisors, workers, contractors, and project teams to verify that work is planned and performed safely, regulatory requirements are met, and hazards are identified and corrected without delay. The Coordinator spends significant time in the field conducting inspections, supporting pre-job planning, coaching workers, reviewing permits and documentation, participating in investigations, and helping site teams apply company procedures and legal requirements in practical ways.
Description
- Train employees on EHS procedures and policies aligned with EQUANS’s HSE program;
- Assist in the implementation of all relevant EQUANS HSE procedures on site (example: lone worker procedure);
- Support in the coordination of activities and prepare/submit reporting to outside agencies;
- Assist in the security process for the requirements on site;
- Provide daily field support to plant operations, maintenance teams, and construction crews at industrial facilities and project sites;
- Conduct routine site inspections, field observations, and audits to verify compliance with company requirements and applicable Ontario and Quebec health and safety legislation;
- Support supervisors and workers with pre-job hazard assessments, job safety planning, safe work permits, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, working at heights, hot work, contractor coordination, and other critical risk activities;
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours in the field, communicate required corrective actions, and follow through until issues are resolved;
- Participate in incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations, gather facts in the field, document findings, and assist with corrective and preventive actions;
- Deliver and support orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and practical training for employees and contractors;
- Review contractor health and safety documentation, training records, certifications, permits, and site-specific plans before and during work execution;
- Assist with compliance activities related to inspections by internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory authorities in Ontario and Quebec;
- Maintain accurate records for inspections, investigations, training, corrective actions, statistics, and other safety documentation;
- Track corrective actions and support site leaders in closing gaps within required timeframes.
Requirements
- Authorized to work in Canada;
- Is qualified to pass a security screening;
- Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, environmental health and safety, industrial safety, or a related discipline;
- Experience in a health and safety role supporting industrial operations, construction projects, or both;
- Working knowledge of Ontario health and safety requirements for industrial establishments and construction projects;
- 5+ years of experience in the Health and Safety field, or relevant experience;
- Knowledge of French;
- Provides technical assistance within the discipline field as directed.

- Confidence to engage workers, supervisors, and contractors directly and respectfully about hazards, controls, and required improvements;
- Strong observation, organization, and follow-up skills;
- Ability to balance operational needs with health and safety requirements and make practical recommendations;
- Good judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail;
- Ability to build credibility with site personnel through consistent support and visible involvement;
- Experience supporting multi-site operations or projects in both industrial and construction environments is an asset;
- Knowledge of management systems such as ISO 45001 is an asset;
- Professional certifications such as CRSP, CRST, NCSO, or similar are assets;
- First Aid/CPR certification, fall protection, confined space, or other relevant safety training are assets;
- Spirit of service, discretion, judgment.

This is a newly created role and offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $75,000 to $85,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, and overall scope of the role.
