General Job Description
1419600 BC Ltd., a Doig River First Nation owned company, is seeking an experienced and motivated Gas Station Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Shell Gas Bar, Convenience Store, and Car Wash located at Naache Commons in Fort St. John, BC.
The Gas Station Manager is responsible for leading staff, ensuring operational excellence, maintaining strong customer service standards, and overseeing fuel, tobacco, inventory, and financial controls. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience, a safety-first mindset, and a solid understanding of fuel station and convenience store operations in British Columbia.
This position plays a key role in supporting a professional, community-focused, and culturally respectful work environment while ensuring compliance with Shell standards, WorkSafeBC requirements, BC Labour Code, and all applicable tobacco and fuel regulations.
- Oversee daily operations of the Shell gas station, convenience store, and car wash
- Ensure compliance with Shell operational standards and procedures
- Monitor fuel inventory, fuel reconciliation, ordering, and receiving processes
- Oversee tobacco inventory and compliance processes, including familiarity with TAFT systems and exempt sale regulations
- Ensure accurate cash handling, deposits, lottery reconciliation, and shift balancing
- Monitor store appearance, merchandising, cleanliness, and maintenance standards
- Coordinate vendor relationships, deliveries, and inventory replenishment
- Assist with budgeting, expense management, and operational reporting
- Recruit, train, supervise, and support staff
- Create and manage employee schedules while ensuring appropriate staffing levels
- Foster a respectful, positive, and team-oriented workplace culture
- Conduct staff coaching, performance management, and ongoing training
- Ensure staff understand and follow workplace policies and procedures
- Maintain strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC standards and workplace safety requirements
- Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, inspections, and training are completed and documented
- Promote a strong safety-first culture within the workplace
- Ensure compliance with emergency procedures, fuel handling standards, and incident reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate inventory controls and ordering systems
- Monitor shrinkage, theft prevention, and loss prevention procedures
- Complete inventory counts and reconciliation reporting
- Review sales trends and identify opportunities to improve profitability
- Ensure accurate payroll, timesheets, and labour management practices
- Deliver and maintain exceptional customer service standards
- Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally and efficiently
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years management experience in a gas station, convenience store, or retail environment
- Experience managing and leading teams in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of inventory management systems and retail controls
- Familiarity with fuel operations, tobacco sales, and regulatory compliance
- Experience using or understanding TAFT systems is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of BC Labour Standards and scheduling practices
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, workplace inspections, and health and safety programs
- Experience with cash handling, reporting, and financial oversight
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License considered an asset
- Willingness to learn and respectfully support the culture, values, and community priorities of Doig River First Nation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or Indigenous-owned businesses
- Experience with Shell systems and fuel operations
- Ability to build positive working relationships within the Nation and contribute to a respectful and community-focused workplace
- First Aid certification considered an asset
