Walmart Connect is Walmart Canada’s fast-growing retail media and advertising business, connecting brands with customers through innovative advertising solutions across digital, in-store and omnichannel experiences. As retail media continues to evolve within the broader digital advertising ecosystem, Walmart Connect is focused on building best-in-class advertising products, strategic partnerships and data-driven capabilities that create value for customers, advertisers and the business.
Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this role will serve as a key legal advisor to Walmart Connect, working closely with business, product and technology stakeholders on complex commercial transactions, customer data matters, digital advertising products and emerging regulatory issues at the intersection of retail, media, data and technology.
Responsibilities include:
- Acting as a strategic legal partner to Walmart Connect’s business, product and commercial teams on the development and launch of retail media and advertising solutions
- Structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactions involving ad tech vendors, media platforms, advertising agencies and strategic technology partners
- Advising on privacy, consumer protection and data governance matters relating to customer data, audience targeting, campaign measurement and analytics
- Providing legal guidance on digital advertising and media matters, including sponsored content, native advertising, marketing claims and customer-facing communications
- Advising on regulatory and compliance frameworks applicable to a retail media network operating across ecommerce, digital platforms and physical retail environments
- Partnering with product, technology, compliance and privacy teams to identify legal risks and develop practical, scalable solutions that support innovation and business growth
- Supporting the development and implementation of governance frameworks related to advertising, data use and media publishing activities
- Monitoring emerging legal and industry developments impacting retail media, advertising technology, privacy, artificial intelligence and digital commerce, and translating those developments into actionable business guidance
- Managing external counsel effectively and efficiently where required
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 – 10 years of corporate/commercial/regulatory experience at an in-house legal department and/or leading law firm
- Significant experience negotiating complex commercial, technology and strategic partnership agreements
- Experience advising on advertising law, privacy, consumer protection, data governance and/or digital media matters
- Experience supporting media, advertising technology (“ad tech”), ecommerce, technology or data-driven businesses is preferred
- Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-moving and evolving regulatory environment
- Strong business judgment, commercial acumen and ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with business partners
LLB/JD and membership in good standing with a Canadian law society
