Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, supporting month-end close processes, managing job cost accounting and delivering accurate and timely financial reporting. This role is hands-on, and requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail and the ability to partner cross-functionally across the organization.
Duties
- Oversee and support daily Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
- Perform detailed accounting and reporting activities monthly to support an accurate and timely period end close
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Review GL detail, preparing reclass and accrual entries as needed
- Prepare and refine balance sheet reconciliations and investigating issues and anomalies
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Complete monthly analysis of financial results, with comparisons to prior month, prior year and budget.
- Prepare and submit monthly GST returns and payments
- Analyze expenses to ensure costs have been charged back to customers as required
- Track key financial and operational metrics
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and track actuals to budget results
- Prepare bi-weekly cheque runs
- Assist in customer collections, including calling clients to obtain accurate contact information and sending copies of requested invoices/documents.
- Continually improve processes and procedures to evolve month-end deliverables
- Maintain ERP system and assist in creation of automated reporting
- Partner with various team members across the organization to assist with ad-hoc reporting, analysis and decision support
- Ensure adherence to corporate, departmental, and OH&S policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Diploma or degree in Accounting or a related field
- CPA designation or active progress towards one is considered an asset, but is not required
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in full-cycle accounting, with progressively increasing responsibility
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, accounting software and databases
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Dynamics 365 Business Central and Jet is considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
- Willingness to be hands-on, including regular transactional data entry
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with high attention to detail
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
