Lead/Charge MRI Technologist — New MRI Clinic in downtown Toronto

About the Clinic
We're (3 mid-career Ontario radiologists) opening a brand-new, state-of-the-art private MRI clinic in downtown Toronto — and we're looking for the technologist who wants to help build it, not just work in it.
This is a rare chance to shape an MRI service from the ground up: the workflows, the scan protocols, the patient experience, the culture. You won't be inheriting someone else's clinic. You'll be helping us design it.
We are starting with 2 MRI machines, with capacity to build out to 5 MRI machines total.
The Role: Two Chapters, One Job
Phase 1 — Founding Consultant (pre-opening). From day one, you'll work directly with clinic leadership as a paid consultant to get the site scan-ready: equipment planning and acceptance testing, protocol development, workflow design, safety program setup, and hiring/training the technologist team you'll eventually lead.
Phase 2 — Charge MRI Technologist (post-opening). Once we open our doors (planned end of 2026/start of 2027), you'll transition into the Charge Technologist role, spending the majority of your time scanning patients while continuing to lead the MRI team — setting the daily standard for image quality, safety, and patient care, and acting as the go-to expert when technologists hit a complex case.
Few technologists get to help design the clinic they'll eventually run day-to-day. This role is built for someone who wants both.
You’ll be working directly with the 3 Ontario radiologists who own the clinic. The clinic, an 11,000+ square foot space, is currently mid-way through construction. The MRI machines have been purchased. We also have a very experienced consultant (a prior DI Dept. Director of a large GTA hospital) working with us.
Responsibilities
Pre-Opening (Consulting Phase)
- Support MRI equipment installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing alongside the vendor and clinic leadership
- Develop MRI scan protocols and technologist workflows tailored to the clinic's patient volumes and referral mix
- Help build the clinic's MRI safety program, including screening procedures, zoning, and emergency protocols
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training the founding MRI technologist team
- Assist with RIS/PACS setup and configuration, and help select/refine clinical documentation workflows
- Provide input on clinic layout, patient flow, and equipment placement from a technologist's-eye view
- Help draft clinical policies and procedures ahead of opening, including infection prevention and control practices

Post-Opening (Charge Technologist Phase)
- Perform MRI scans, and be the lead scanning technologist
- Lead and mentor the MRI technologist team on protocol adherence, image quality, and patient care standards
- Act as the senior point of contact for complex or difficult scans, patient safety concerns, and in-the-moment clinical decisions
- Oversee day-to-day MRI safety compliance (screening, zoning, contrast administration, emergency readiness)
- Coordinate technologist scheduling to ensure consistent, efficient clinic coverage
- Monitor image quality and workflow efficiency, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure proper use of RIS/PACS/EMR systems
- Serve as a liaison between the technologist team and clinical/administrative leadership on operational matters
Qualifications
Required
- Current registration in good standing with the applicable Ontario regulatory college (CMRITO)
- Degree or diploma in Medical Radiation Sciences / Radiological Technology
- Minimum 2 years of MRI experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or informal charge-technologist experience
- Strong understanding of MRI safety principles and clinical workflows
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfort working independently and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-moving, startup environment
Preferred
- Experience with MRI equipment installation, commissioning, or acceptance testing
- Experience developing scan protocols, policies, or clinical workflows
- Experience opening or helping launch a new imaging clinic or department
- Experience with RIS/PACS implementation
- Formal charge technologist or supervisory experience a bonus
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation includes a consulting rate for the pre-opening phase, transitioning to a competitive salary upon opening — commensurate with experience and the scope of the role. Details discussed during the interview process.
