Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mining Project Engineer to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.
This role operates on a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.
The Senior Mining Project Engineer is responsible for leading technical studies, operational improvement initiatives, and sustaining mining projects that support the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Mount Milligan Mine. The role works closely with Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, Maintenance, Processing, Geology, and Technical Services to identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities that improve productivity, reduce operating costs, optimize mine performance, and create long-term value.
The incumbent provides technical leadership for multidisciplinary studies, business improvement initiatives, and mine optimization projects from concept through implementation. This includes developing business cases, evaluating technical alternatives, supporting contract evaluations, and managing sustaining capital projects using a structured stage-gate approach. The role serves as a key link between engineering and operations, ensuring projects and improvement initiatives are practical, economically sound, and aligned with the site's operational objectives.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Technical Studies & Project Development
- Lead scoping, trade-off, and feasibility-level studies supporting Mine Engineering and Mine Operations.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve mine productivity, equipment utilization, operating costs, mine flexibility, and operational efficiency.
- Develop engineering solutions for mine infrastructure improvements, operational bottlenecks, and productivity enhancement initiatives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary studies involving Mine Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Processing, Geotechnical, Hydrogeology, Environment, and Supply Chain.
- Prepare study scopes, engineering deliverables, schedules, budgets, and implementation plans.
- Develop technical recommendations supported by engineering analysis, operational data, and economic evaluation.
Value Engineering & Business Improvement
- Lead value engineering workshops and continuous improvement initiatives across the mining operation.
- Conduct technical and economic trade-off studies considering safety, production, capital costs, operating costs, reliability, implementation risk, and long-term business value.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve operational performance and reduce costs.
- Prepare business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and investment recommendations for site leadership.
- Support stage-gate reviews by documenting project assumptions, risks, opportunities, and value drivers.
Mine Engineering & Operations Support
- Support Mine Engineering with evaluations of:
- Haul road design and optimization
- Waste dump and stockpile development
- Pit infrastructure
- Dewatering systems
- Mine services
- Fleet productivity improvements
- Traffic management initiatives
- Mine infrastructure upgrades
- Work closely with Mine Operations to identify operational constraints and implement practical solutions that improve productivity and reduce unit costs.
- Support life-of-mine planning initiatives and strategic mine optimization studies.
- Evaluate and implement new mining technologies and operational best practices.
Drill & Blast Optimization
- Provide technical leadership in drill and blast design and optimization to improve fragmentation, reduce dilution, increase shovel productivity, and enhance downstream processing performance.
- Evaluate blast patterns, powder factors, explosive selection, timing, drilling accuracy, and wall control practices.
- Analyze blast performance using operational data and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Mine Operations and drilling and blasting contractors to optimize blast outcomes, equipment productivity, and operating costs.
- Support the implementation of new drill and blast technologies, digital tools, and industry best practices.
Mining Contracts & Contractor Performance
- Lead technical evaluations of mining-related contracts, including drilling, blasting, crushing, equipment services, and other operational support contracts.
- Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, bid evaluation criteria, and contractor selection recommendations.
- Participate in tender evaluations and provide technical and commercial input during procurement processes.
- Monitor contractor performance against safety, productivity, quality, cost, and contractual KPIs.
- Identify opportunities to improve contractor performance, optimize scope, and maximize value for the operation.
- Support contract renewals, negotiations, claims evaluations, and performance reviews through technical and financial analysis.
Project Delivery
- Manage sustaining capital and operational improvement projects from concept through implementation and close-out.
- Coordinate internal resources, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and project performance.
- Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to mining operations.
- Support commissioning, operational readiness, and post-implementation performance reviews.
Safety, Leadership & Collaboration
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all studies and projects comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Integrate risk assessments into study development and project execution.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical capability within the Mine Engineering team.
- Foster strong collaboration between Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, Maintenance, Processing, and Technical Services.
- Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in open pit hard rock mining.
- Demonstrated experience in mine engineering, mine operations support, technical studies, and project development.
- Strong practical experience in drill and blast design, optimization, and performance analysis.
- Experience evaluating and managing mining service contracts and contractor performance.
- Experience preparing business cases and economic evaluations for operational improvement and sustaining capital projects.
- Experience with mine planning and engineering software such as Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan, or equivalent is considered an adavantage.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.
- Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14, 12 hours per day
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
