Under the supervision and direction of the Chronic Pain Centre Program Manager and Care Manager, the Health Care Aide in this ambulatory care setting rooms patients, takes vital signs and weights, organizes exam room allocation and schedules. Ordering of supplies, cleaning exam rooms and stocking rooms are also duties of the Health Care Aide. The Health Care Aide will work collaboratively with clerical and nursing staff to maintain the flow of patients through clinic.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses in the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and overall wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and you will support effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate from an approved Health Care Aide program. Must have a minimum of 1 year experience (within the past 5 years) in a healthcare setting. Current BLS is required. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written English. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Must be able to take a manual blood pressure, vital signs, and safely handle urine and other lab specimens. Must be able to work with computers and scheduling software. Must be able to reach above and below shoulder height, push and pull carts weighing up to 50lb, lift and carry objects up to 10lb. Frequent standing/walking and bending to clean equipment, moving chairs, and tables are frequently required during the shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ambulatory clinic experience. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients/residents, families, visitors, and team members. Demonstrated well developed time management skills.
