Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious AZ / Class 1 Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation and delivery of products throughout Ontario while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
This position requires a highly professional driver with extensive highway experience, strong geographical knowledge of Ontario, and the ability to travel overnight when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and commercial vehicles throughout Ontario.
- Complete local, regional, and multi-day deliveries as assigned.
- Transport products in accordance with company policies and all applicable transportation regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, trip reports, delivery documentation, and regulatory records.
- Ensure all loads are secured and transported safely.
- Deliver exceptional customer service at all customer locations.
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment when required.
- Follow all Health & Safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and WHMIS regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, operations, and customers regarding delivery schedules and issues.
- Report vehicle maintenance concerns, incidents, delays, and safety hazards promptly.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in required training programs and competency assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Valid Ontario AZ License or Canadian Class 1 License.
- Clean Driver's Abstract.
- Air Brake (Z Endorsement) Certification required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional commercial driving experience.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers and semi-trailer trucks.
- Valid forklift certification and lift truck experience, or the ability to obtain certification considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Ministry of Transportation regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Comprehensive geographical knowledge of Ontario, including major highways, cities, and delivery routes.
- Intermediate English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to successfully pass aptitude testing and ongoing competency evaluations.
Working Conditions
- All required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn while performing assigned duties.
- Frequent highway and long-distance travel throughout Ontario.
- Out-of-city travel and overnight stays are required.
- Ability to travel for up to two consecutive days across the province.
- Exposure to varying weather and road conditions.
- Extended periods of driving and sitting.
- Hours of work may vary based on operational requirements, vacation coverage, absences, customer demands, and fluctuating workloads.
- Occasional loading, unloading, and material handling duties may be required.
