Mandate:
The School of Molecular Life Sciences in the Faculty of Science is a dynamic academic and research-intensive school, offering undergraduate degrees in Molecular Life Sciences and graduate degrees in Biochemistry or Microbiology. The school offers an experiential based undergraduate laboratory program ranging from second to fourth year.
The Senior Laboratory Instructor position is a vital component of the highly regarded undergraduate laboratory program. Reporting to the Administrative Officer, this position provides teaching coverage to all three levels of laboratory courses, participates in curriculum development and updates, and directly supervises Laboratory Instructors and Central Services staff.
The Senior Laboratory Instructor works with Occupational Health, Safety and Environment and the Administrative Officer to create a safe teaching laboratory environment for both students and staff. This position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted delivery of laboratory courses through leading lab set ups, completing pretest experiments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ordered in a timely fashion.
Objectives:
- Support academic quality and program excellence. Continuously improve lab courses by integrating new technology and current scientific practices.
- Drive ongoing modernization and enhancement of laboratory curriculum.
- Provide leadership to the instructors and Central Services team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and shared best practices.
- Create and promote equity, diversity, inclusion and respectful environments for students and for the teaching team.
- Create and maintain a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
