Who We Are
PermaCorp is a proudly Canadian metal fabrication business serving commercial, residential, and industrial markets across North America. With operations spanning multiple provinces and a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and practical problem-solving, we specialize in delivering custom railing, architectural, and fabricated metal solutions that support a wide range of projects and clients.
At our core, we are a hands-on, growth-focused organization built on hard work, accountability, and continuous improvement. Our teams include skilled tradespeople, production leaders, technical experts, and business professionals who work together to get the job done right. As we continue to scale, we are building the systems, leadership, and people practices that will support sustainable long-term growth while staying true to the operational excellence that defines our business.
Why This Role Exists
PermaCorp is scaling fast. Our engineering function sits at the center of sales velocity, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality. We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager with a strong mechanical engineering background who wants to own the system, not just manage drawings.
This is a role for someone who enjoys complexity, thrives in cross-functional environments, and sees engineering as both a technical and commercial discipline.
What You’ll Be Accountable For
1. Product Engineering and Design Leadership
- Own end-to-end engineering output from sales handoff through production release
- Ensure drawings are manufacturing-ready, accurate, and aligned with internal standards
- Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) with clarity, urgency, and accountability
- Maintain and continuously improve engineering standards, templates, and best practices
2. Drafting and Throughput Management
- Oversee drafting workflows to ensure predictable, timely delivery
- Balance speed with quality; minimizing rework and shop-floor disruptions
- Forecast engineering capacity against incoming sales demand
- Reduce bottlenecks between Sales, Engineering, and Production
3. Sales Support and Value Engineering
- Partner with Sales during custom quote requests to value-engineer solutions
- Identify cost-effective design alternatives that protect margin and manufacturability
- Support Sales with samples, mock-ups, and technical input as needed
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, not a gatekeeper
4. Product Line Ownership and Innovation
- Own and maintain the product catalogue
- Drive product improvements, material optimization, and design innovation
- Lead continuous improvement in design processes and workflow efficiency
- Contribute to new product development from concept to production-ready release
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Interface closely with the Plant Manager and Manufacturing Engineer
- Proactively address manufacturability constraints and production needs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering and Operations
- Build credibility on the shop floor and in leadership meetings alike
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Experience
- Mechanical Engineering background (degree or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience in product engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Proven ability to translate designs into real-world, scalable production
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Experience working directly with Sales, Production, and Operations
Nice-to-Have (Not Required)
- Experience in custom or engineered-to-order products
- Exposure to catalogue-based product systems
- Leadership or mentorship experience
- Background in continuous improvement or lean environments
How You Work
- You take ownership and don’t wait for permission
- You’re comfortable making decisions with imperfect information
- You communicate clearly; with engineers, salespeople, and operators
- You care about quality, margin, and throughput, not just design elegance
- You enjoy improving systems, not just executing tasks
What You’ll Get
- A high-impact leadership role with real influence across the business
- Direct visibility into how engineering drives revenue and margin
- The opportunity to build and improve systems, not inherit rigid bureaucracy
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience
- A growing organization where strong performers are recognized and trusted
