Position Summary:
This position reports to the Director of Acute Inpatient Services. The Manager is responsible for the leadership, operational oversight, quality of care, and budget management of the Medicine Unit. The role includes staff supervision, strategic alignment with organizational priorities, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and professional standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Clinical & Operational Leadership
- Ensures high quality patient care, patient safety, infection control, and risk management practices.
- Oversees day to day operations of the Medicine Unit, including staffing, patient flow, and resource allocation.
- Monitors standards of practice and ensures compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory bodies, and Accreditation standards.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, community partners, and Ontario Health at Home to support safe transitions of care.
2. Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
- Investigates incidents, patient complaints, and safety events, ensuring timely follow-up, and implements actin items to mitigate risk of recurrence.
- Contributes to corporate quality improvement goals and annual performance metrics.
- Benchmarks performance against peer organizations and implements improvement strategies.
- Acts as a change agent to support best practices and evidence-based care.
- Leads and participates in change management processes within the program and the organization
3. Human Resources & Staff Development
- Supervises RNs, RPNs, externs and Ward Clerks.
- Participates in recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, coaching, and progressive discipline.
- Ensures compliance with collective agreements.
- Promotes professional development, education programs, and staff engagement.
4. Financial & Resource Management
- Prepares, manages, and monitors departmental budgets.
- Ensures effective use of resources, including equipment, supplies, and staffing.
5. Communication & Collaboration
- Communicates effectively with staff, peers, senior leadership, physicians, and patient partners.
- Serves on committees as required.
- Represents the Medicine Unit in organizational initiatives and planning.
Experience:
- Certificate of Competence – College of Nurses of Ontario
- Bachelor level university degree – Masters preferred
- Evidenced Leadership and clinical practice training
- 7 – 10 years nursing experience in Medicine
- Leadership experience preferred

Salary Range: $60.71/hr - $68.32/hr
