JOB SUMMARY
The Kitchen lead is responsible for leading all the daily and weekly operations involved in food production, presentation, costing, and staffing. They manage the kitchen, trains staff, sets the schedule, and supervises the team. In addition, part of the role is regular calculation and consideration of the cost of materials and cost of labour for the production process from beginning to end. Experience with operational efficiency planning, management of people, and operations of a restaurant business are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Kitchen Team Lead’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Team Leadership

Effectively communicate with Kitchen Quality Control Specialist, Cafe Operations Manager & Director of Cafes where appropriate

Effectively communicate with staff - FOH & BOH where necessary

Responsible for on-site training, direction and coaching of kitchen staff

Participate in Café Lead meetings – internal and cross-company

The Kitchen Lead ensures communication in group chats is professional and productive.

The Kitchen Lead ensures to communicate any issues with equipment to the Cafe Director.

Promotes creating a positive and collaborative work environment within the Kitchen Team, and the Front of House Staff, and the Cafe Manager.

Management of Suppliers factoring quality, cost & supply

Manage physical inventory and inventory data entry including purchasing and receiving Maintain inventory of food products using BevSpot

Ensure all consumable supplies are ordered and stocked

Ensure that business management tools are up-to-date and accurate

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for counting inventory weekly before placing orders.

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for conducting month-end inventory counts in a timely manner.
Quality Control and Certifications

Quality and consistency of food presentation

Maintain a clean and presentable work area for all staff and on-site visitors

Maintain and update facility to meet Food Safety Standards

Government compliance (Health & Safety, staff certifications)

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for updating the par-levels for daily production, and training the kitchen team to follow the production log.

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for placing orders within the budgets provided.
-
The Kitchen Lead is responsible for counting before ordering, and ensuring the orders with suppliers are not over-inflated to what is needed, or under then required for operations.

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for ensuring that there is minimal wastage in the kitchen, and actively takes actions to control, such as adjusting ordering, adjusting production.

All roles including Kitchen Lead is responsible for the cleanliness of the cafe's, which includes and is not limited to dishes, counters, floors, mopping, fridges, and storage areas.

The Kitchen Lead ensures that storage areas are correctly labeled, and is organized.

The Kitchen Lead ensures that the orders are put away in the identified storage area and in a timely manner to ensure no spoilage.

The Kitchen Lead reports any ordering/delivery issues with the Cafe Director.

The Kitchen Lead ensures that the display case is full, and the items on the menu can be ordered.
- The Kitchen Lead is responsible for looking at the made items in the display case, and preparing/refilling the display cases when running low. The Kitchen Lead is responsible for training the kitchen team to do the same.
- The Kitchen Lead ensures that food is available as instructed by the Cafe Manager or Cafe Director for events.

And any other tasks assigned by the Cafe Manager, Operations Manager, or Cafe Director.
Skills and Qualifications:

5+ years in the food industry

Secondary School Diploma
-
Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and team motivational skills

Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to get along, be a team player and be respectful of colleagues

Excellent written and verbal communicator

Strategic thinker/planner with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues creatively Knowledge of accounting principles and skill with Excel

Valid Ontario Driver’s License
