Job Summary
For over 30 years, our agency has proudly operated Children’s Corner, a respite program that provides a safe, nurturing, and supportive home environment for Indigenous children ages 3 to 12. Children are referred to the program for regularly scheduled overnight respite care, where they are welcomed into a warm, family-like setting. In partnership with Vancouver Aboriginal Child & Family Services Society (VACFSS)
Responsibilities
House Parents play a central role in creating a caring, stable, and engaging environment for up to five children at a time. Working as a team of two, the House Parents are responsible for:
- Providing daily care and supervision in a safe, home-like environment.
- Preparing healthy meals and snacks.
- Supporting children’s routines, including getting them ready for school, transporting them to and from school or daycare, and assisting with homework.
- Organizing recreational activities, playtime, and community outings.
- Offering emotional support and guidance to promote positive growth and well-being.
House Parents have minimal contact with parents/guardians, as a dedicated ProgramCoordinator serves as the main point of communication with parents/guardians and referring Social Workers. This allows House Parents to focus fully on providing care and support for the children.

- During days off, House Parents may remain in the home, which will be child-free during this time.
