Casual (relief coverage: both day and night shift work)
The Crisis Intervener reports to the Executive Director and is subject to an annual written performance evaluation.
Job Purpose
The Crisis Intervener’s purpose is to provide support, comfort, and case management to clients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor and respond to the 24/7 telephone hotline and text messaging service, appraise clients’ need and eligibility for specific services, and provide crisis intervention support.
Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers to offer referrals and support to clients.
Qualifications
Social Work Technician, Social Service/Human Service certification, or equivalent.
Credentials (certificates, licenses, memberships, courses, etc.) WSFA First Aid (required). Non-Violent Crisis Intervention / De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations , Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Danger Assessment Tool certified, CTRI certificates completed: Front Line Skills for Social Services, Boundaries and Ethics for Helpers.
Experience
Previous experience and/or training in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Domestic Violence Services, Suicide Intervention, Child Development, and other relatable skills would be an asset.
Competencies
The Crisis Intervener must be capable of working under pressure. Crisis Interveners must understand the dynamics of abuse and domestic violence and use that understanding to assist abused women in an appropriate and acceptable manner. Critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence are of utmost importance.
Additional necessary skills include:

· housekeeping (such as mopping, sweeping, and dusting)
· Carrying/lifting up to 20 lbs
· Able to navigate stairs multiple times per shift
· Able to work both day and night shifts
· Availability to work 1-2 shifts per month
Rate of Pay
Rate of pay will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement that is in effect.
*A negative result from both a criminal record check and Department of Social Department record check is required prior to employment with Sussex Vale Transition House.
