Level of Formal Education:
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Certificate of Qualifications as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic or other appropriate certification issued by the Manitoba Department of Labour.
- Limited electrical licence and MOPIA Certified Technician Certification required .Limited Welding licence or be capable of passing same with regard to freon piping.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License.
Experience:
- At least five years of experience as a Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic.
- Extensive knowledge of the systems presently maintained by the refrigeration shop at the Physical Plant Department.
Knowledge of pneumatic controls an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to estimate costs of time and materials required for new installations or repairs to existing systems or equipment.
- Ability to work alone without direct supervision.- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to read blue prints, understand technical language and manuals.
- Knowledge and ability to safely and properly repair various types of refrigerative and air conditioning equipment.
- Familiar with recent C.F.C. rules and regulations.
- Must be alert and thorough.
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
OTHER:
- May be required to work at the Fort Garry or Bannatyne Campus.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry checks.
- Maintains and repairs all types of high and low pressure refrigeration and industrial air conditioning equipment.
- Investigates and diagnoses complaints re: malfunctioning of equipment used for heating, cooling, air supply, and ventilation.
- Installs and commissions new equipment.
- Records hours of work on work orders and daily time sheets.
- Estimates costs of time and materials required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
