What you will be doing
The Flooring Installation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating flooring installation crews on residential and commercial projects. The role includes supervising installers, planning work schedules, ensuring that installations meet quality standards, maintaining safety compliance, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Job Duties
- Supervising and coordinating the activities of flooring installers and installation crews.
- Planning, assigning, and monitoring daily installation schedules for residential and commercial flooring projects.
- Reviewing project specifications, blueprints, and customer requirements before installation begins.
- Inspecting completed flooring installations to ensure quality standards are met.
- Training and mentoring new installers in proper installation techniques, equipment use, and company procedures.
- Ensuring proper installation of hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, carpet, engineered flooring, and specialty flooring products.
- Resolving on-site installation issues, technical problems, and customer concerns promptly.
- Monitoring inventory of flooring materials, adhesives, tools, and equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards, including the use of protective equipment and safe work procedures.
- Coordinating with project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers regarding timelines and project updates.
- Conducting team performance reviews and monitoring employee productivity.
- Maintaining records related to installations, job completion, material usage, and employee attendance.
- Ensuring that company vehicles, tools, and installation equipment are properly maintained.
What we need from you
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Completion of a college diploma or certification in construction, flooring installation, carpentry or a related field is an asset.
- At least 3 years of experience in flooring installation, construction, or related trade work.
- 1–2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience overseeing installers or construction.
- Strong knowledge of flooring materials, installation methods, and industry standards.
- Experience installing hardwood, vinyl plank, laminate, tile, carpet, and commercial flooring systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, layouts, and technical drawings.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good communication skills for interacting with customers, employees, and suppliers.
- Knowledge of Ontario workplace safety regulations and construction site safety procedures.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Certification in workplace safety training (such as Workplace Safety and Insurance Board or WHMIS).
- Experience supervising residential and commercial flooring installation projects.
- First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
