About the Role
Spier & Mackay is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Account Assistant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping and accounting experience within Canada and possess excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple accounting functions, support financial reporting, and contribute to the efficient operation of the accounting department.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of:
- E-commerce transactions and payment gateways
- Bank accounts
- Credit card accounts
- General ledger accounts
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records and ensure timely posting of transactions.
- Verify, review, and reconcile business expenses and supporting documentation.
- Prepare cash flow reports.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Prepare and file sales tax returns for Canada (HST/GST/PST) and the Sales and Use Tax.
- Perform HST reconciliations and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as required.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciliation issues.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, vendors, and external stakeholders.
- Assist with other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be legally eligible to work for any employer in Canada.
- Minimum 2+ years of bookkeeping and accounting experience in Canada.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
- Experience working for a Canadian corporation and familiarity with Canadian accounting practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Quick Books Online and Desktop) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fast learner with a strong sense of responsibility, accountability, and professionalism.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Compensation: Negotiable, based on qualifications and experience
