Key Responsibilities
- Support laboratory-based scientific investigations by undertaking a range of routine technical tasks and experiments.
- Aseptically collect and process micro samples from fermenters downstream to packaged goods
- Performing routine microbiological analysis according to established in the procedures.
- Conduct product swabbing and environmental micro sampling.
- Work closely with production staff in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, GMP’s and work-related necessary training.
- Preparation of media
- Support in microbiological analysis for Quality Assurance, Development or other Departments or sections that require it.
- Record, analyze, and summarize microbiological assessments and data for Quality Managers & communicate to necessary team members.
- Test products with a high level of accuracy and reliability at different stages in their lifecycle to assess quality, allergens control, sensory condition, and compliance with specifications.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment. Run lab proficiency samples to ensure our
equipment, procedures, and methods are reliable and accurate.
- Identify and raise quality and compliance concerns to the Lab team; monitor as necessary
- Collaborate with production to monitor the weekly schedule and ensure products have been QC-released and which products coming down the pipeline will need QC-testing
- Assist in troubleshooting continuous improvement, quality, and innovation projects with members of the Lab and Production teams
- Validation, improvements and development of methods and procedures in the Laboratory.
- Follow all guidelines related to Gluten Free Certification program (GFCO)
The Successful Lab Tech Will Have:
- A post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Microbiology, Biotecnology, Brewing, Food Science, Oenology, or a related discipline
- Previous experience in a similar role; brewery or food and beverage manufacturing experience is considered an asset
- Flexibility to work in shifts
- Ability to maintain attention to detail while managing competing priorities in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment
- Flexibility to shift priorities quickly and respond to urgent matters dictated by production needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to act as a quality ambassador to our brewery partners
- Has a safety mindset and is able to work autonomously and under pressure
Though not required, it would be great if you have experience with:
- Established continuous improvement food safety management systems such as GFSI, FSSC 22000, BRC, or SQF
- ISO 17025 and/or ISO 9001 requirements
- Sensory training or sensory panel management
- Good handling of microscope, knowledge in cell count, PCR, and yeast propagation.
- Analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis in areas such as GC, HPLC, or distillation, with experience in sample preparation and analysis
- Statistical analysis, data mining, or data visualization techniques on complex datasets

Our FSCC 22000, Organic, Gluten-free and soon Kosher certified facility is state-of-the-art, with an open concept brewery, fully automated brewhouse for production, while our 20hl pilot brewing system can be utilized for recipe development, one-off brews, and smaller batches’, seasonal beers and small scale packaging, including all can formats and party keg filling. In 2022 we invested in state-of-the-art packaging equipment from Krones and filling at speeds of up to 1100 cpm.
