Position Summary
The Shop & Fleet Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the maintenance department, fleet readiness, and shop operations. This position oversees technicians and support staff while ensuring equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
The successful candidate is an experienced Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership, organization, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Shop Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the maintenance shop.
- Schedule and prioritize repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
- Maximize fleet availability while minimizing downtime.
- Monitor equipment condition and recommend replacement or major repair strategies.
- Coordinate outside vendors and subcontractors when required.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor Heavy Equipment Technicians, apprentices, and shop personnel.
- Support apprenticeship development and employee training.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused culture.
- Lead the company's health and safety program.
- Ensure compliance with provincial OH&S legislation and company policies.
- Support maintenance billing by ensuring work orders are complete and accurately
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and service.
Qualifications
Required
- Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician.
- Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of: Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo Equipment
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Valid driver's licence.
Preferred
- Experience in the equipment rental industry and fleet management
- Knowledge of Alberta OH&S legislation.
- Experience with budgeting and cost control.
- First Aid and COR experience considered an asset.

Pay: $48.00-$58.00 per hour
