Overview
The GPEKS Group of companies is seeking an elite, highly entrepreneurial Fractional CFO on a part-time, contract basis. We are focused on private capital markets and non-dilutive financing. We need a world-class financial architect to optimize our corporate structures, secure private capital, navigate major institutional grants, and spearhead complex public-private infrastructure financing, and Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing.
The experienced and strategic Fractional CFO will provide leadership for our infrastructure and real estate development projects. This role offers an opportunity to influence high-level financial strategies, oversee risk management, and support business growth in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, leadership qualities, and a comprehensive understanding of corporate finance within the real estate and infrastructure sectors. This position is perfect for a professional looking to leverage their expertise on a flexible basis while contributing to impactful projects.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
As our Fractional CFO, you will act as a core strategic partner to executive leadership, focusing entirely on high-level financial engineering, asset optimization, capital growth, and institutional partnerships.
- Seed Funding & Capital Coordination: Directly lead seed-stage fundraising for new projects. Structure compelling private capital offerings and effectively coordinate with external fundraising teams to secure seed-round commitments.
- Grant Writing & Incentives Leadership: Spearhead the preparation, financial modeling, and strategy for minimum $10M major grant application, while actively identifying and securing relevant municipal, national, and international green incentives.
- Innovative Clean Energy & Building Finance: Leverage specialized green financing mechanisms, with a specific focus on deploying PACE financing for asset retrofits and sustainable developments.
- Public-Private Partnerships (P3): Structure and negotiate Public-Private Partnerships for large-scale real estate, energy, and transport infrastructure projects both within Canada and internationally.
- Development Bank & Institutional Relations: Interface and negotiate directly with National and International/Multilateral Development Banks (e.g., Canada Infrastructure Bank, international financial institutions) to back large-scale infrastructure assets.
- Corporate Structuring & Tax Optimization: Determine the most effective vehicles for new and existing projects. Know exactly when to deploy a new corporation, a trust, a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), or a General Partner/Limited Partner (GP/LP) structure to maximize tax efficiency.
- Strategic Advisory (IREDI): Provide financial oversight and structural alignment for the IREDI Executive Master initiative, ensuring its commercial and operational integration within the group.
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals for infrastructure and real estate initiatives.
- Oversee budgeting processes, financial planning, and forecasting to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
- Manage account reconciliation, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Lead negotiations with stakeholders, investors, and partners to secure favorable terms and support business development efforts.
- Conduct risk management assessments to identify potential financial exposures and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide leadership in corporate finance activities including capital structuring, funding strategies, and investment analysis.
- Support sales teams with financial insights to enhance client proposals and project pitches.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to optimize organizational efficiency and financial performance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in corporate finance, accounting, or financial services with a focus on infrastructure or real estate sectors.
- Strong negotiation skills coupled with business development expertise.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing cross-functional teams or projects.
- Expertise in account reconciliation, budgeting, risk management, and financial analysis.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of real estate, energy and transport infrastructure development industry-specific regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to work independently on a flexible schedule while maintaining high levels of professionalism and accountability.
- Prior experience as a CFO or senior financial executive is highly desirable. This role offers the flexibility of part-time engagement combined with the opportunity to influence significant projects within the infrastructure and real estate markets through strategic financial oversight.
Who You Are
- The Structuring & Deal Expert: You have a deep understanding of advanced corporate law, private capital markets, M&A and P3 structuring. GP/LP setups, REIT conversions, and development bank financing frameworks are second nature to you.
- Grant & Incentive Savvy: You have a track record of successfully navigating large-scale ($1M+) government or institutional grants and green building incentives.
- Connected & Collaborative: You know how to quarterback external fundraising teams, broker relationships with institutional lenders, and speak the language of multilateral development banks.
- Independent Contractor: You run your own advisory practice or contract business. You want a flexible, high-impact role where you are judged strictly on the value you deliver.
- Fluent with AI and Productivity tools.
- Results-Oriented: You prefer a compensation model that rewards success. You are confident enough in your ability to unlock value, win grants, and close deals that you want your upside tied directly to the milestones you hit.
Qualifications
- CPA, CFA, or an advanced degree in Finance/Business (MBA) is highly preferred, though a verifiable history of major deal-making, grant acquisition, and infrastructure financing overrides acronyms.
- Minimum 10+ years of senior financial leadership experience, specifically within infrastructure finance, real estate development, private equity, or sustainable energy.
- Proven experience working with Canadian and international infrastructure programs, P3 frameworks, or multilateral development banks.
- Expertise in corporate tax structures for mixed holding companies (Real Estate, Energy, Transport).
Work Logistics & Compensation
- Format: 100% Remote.
- Commitment: Part-time/Fractional. Hours will fluctuate based on active capital raises, grant deadlines, and project structuring phases.
- Compensation Structure: Built for a rainmaker. A monthly retainer to cover baseline alignment, paired with a very heavy results-based bonus structure (tied to percentages of private capital raised, successful grant awards, PACE financing deployment, or equity milestones achieved).
To Apply, please submit your professional profile or CV using our and provide your Linked-In page with at least 3 professional references. In your cover letter of introduction, highlight a brief summary of any grant or funding you assisted in securing or a large-scale infrastructure project (P3 or Development Bank funded) you successfully financed.
