Job Summary
The Dean of Student Services is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing the student experience through effective support services, student engagement initiatives, and campus programs. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students. The Dean will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to develop policies and programs that promote student success and retention. A background in education, leadership, and budgeting is essential to ensure the effective management of resources and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for student services, student support, and student engagement.
- Advise students regarding academic progress, attendance, conduct, personal challenges, and institutional policies.
- Coordinate student activities, offsite practicum and events.
- Develop and coordinate community practicum activities and partnerships.
- Support student retention, progression, graduation readiness, and referrals to appropriate academic or community resources.
- Address student concerns, complaints, conflicts, and conduct matters in accordance with institutional policies and procedural fairness.
- Support the implementation of student appeal, complaint, accommodation, attendance, and respectful-learning policies.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Academics, Registrar, faculty, and clinic leadership regarding students who require additional support or intervention.
- Promote student wellness, inclusion, professionalism, and community engagement.
- Coordinate student representatives, student meetings, feedback surveys, and student-focused activities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student meetings, concerns, interventions, and outcomes.
- Review student feedback and recommend improvements to programs, services, policies, and the learning environment.
- Participate in institutional committees, quality-assurance activities, policy development, and strategic planning.
- Support compliance with applicable institutional, regulatory, privacy, and educational requirements.
- Coordinate health and safety committee and oversee workplace safety and maintenance
Qualifications
- Experience or a degree/diploma in a healthcare, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, massage therapy, or private post-secondary environment is an asset.
- A degree or diploma in education, student affairs, counselling, social sciences, healthcare, administration, or a related field can also be considered.
- Several years of experience in student services, post-secondary education, academic administration, counselling, or a related leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of student support, conflict resolution, procedural fairness, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Experience developing or implementing student policies, services, programs, or support initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, student-information systems, email, and electronic records.
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
