The Yard Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all yard operations related to material handling, inventory control, shipping and receiving. This role ensures materials are organized, accessible, and efficiently moved through the production process. The Yard Supervisor also manages and mentors the yard team to uphold safety, productivity, and company standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strong leadership and clear direction to yard staff through training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Implement and maintain effective training programs for all yard personnel.
- Support and execute directives from the Production Manager while aligning with company goals and policies.
- Monitor team productivity, quality of work, and adherence to safety procedures.
- Enforce company policies, including safety protocols, operational procedures, and conduct standards.
- Coordinate yard resources to ensure timely material handling, inventory movement, and preparation for production.
- Oversee material flow including:
- Receiving and organizing slabs, sinks, equipment, and supplies.
- Picking and prepping materials for production shifts.
- Photographing and logging materials into IPS within specified timeframes.
- Returning remnants to inventory and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the yard and shop areas, ensuring all walkways are clear of debris and hazards.
- Ensure all shipping and receiving documentation is accurate and properly distributed.
- Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance and minor repairs for yard equipment.
- Provide regular updates to management regarding material availability, production support, equipment status, and any issues impacting workflow.
- Conduct or support performance evaluations and assist with staff development.
- Adhere to and promote key performance benchmarks, including:
- All materials prepped and ready before cutting shifts begin.
- Remnants returned to stock, photographed, and recorded daily.
- Materials entered into IPS and photographed within 48 hours of receipt.
- Perform other duties as required to support yard operations and overall production efficiency.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma required; post-secondary education is an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead-hand role, preferably in a production or yard environment.
- Ability to lift 80+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Proficient in English (verbal and written) and able to interpret shop drawings.
- Comfortable using a measuring tape and basic tools.
- Certified or competent in operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:
- Outdoor yard and indoor production facility.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, Silica dust, noise, and heavy materials.
- Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is mandatory.
*Starting wage will depend on experience
Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
