About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, licensed HVAC Technician to join our team performing residential service, repair, and installation work on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and related gas and electrical equipment. This is a hands-on role for a reliable, safety-conscious tradesperson who takes pride in doing the job right and can work independently in customers' homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, and repair residential furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless systems.
- Install new HVAC equipment and replacement systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and code.
- Perform gas line hook-ups, venting, and combustion testing on natural gas and propane appliances.
- Handle refrigerant safely in line with environmental regulations (recovery, charging, leak detection).
- Complete accurate work orders, service reports, and maintenance records for each job.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, explaining findings and recommendations.
- Identify and quote additional repair or replacement needs; support the sales process where appropriate.
- Follow all applicable safety standards (TSSA, OHSA, WHMIS) and company safety procedures.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in good working order.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency service calls, as required.
Required Certifications & Licenses
In Ontario, residential HVAC work is regulated by Skilled Trades Ontario (trade certification) and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority — TSSA (gas licensing). Candidates should hold, at minimum:
- Certificate of Qualification — 313A (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic) or 313D
(Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic), issued by Skilled Trades Ontario.
- TSSA Gas Technician license — G2 (G3 as a minimum stepping-stone credential; G2 preferred for independent work on gas furnaces and water heaters up to 400,000 BTU/h).
- ODP (Ozone Depletion Prevention) card, authorizing the purchase and handling of refrigerants under O. Reg.238/01.
- Valid Ontario driver's license (Class G) with a clean driving record — this role involves daily driving to customer homes.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on residential HVAC service and installation experience (post-apprenticeship).
- Strong working knowledge of furnace, air conditioning, heat pump, and gas appliance systems and controls.
- Comfortable using diagnostic tools, combustion analyzers, and standard HVAC hand/power tools.
- Solid troubleshooting ability — can accurately diagnose issues and explain them in plain language to customers.
- Strong customer service skills; professional, tidy, and respectful in customers' homes.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer installation manuals.
- Basic digital literacy for work order software, email, and scheduling apps.
- Physically able to lift equipment (up to ~75 lbs), work in attics/crawlspaces, and work on ladders/rooftops.
Considered an Asset (Nice to Have)
- Experience with ductless/mini-split and heat pump systems.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Red Seal endorsement.
- Prior experience quoting and upselling equipment replacements.
- Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi).
