Rising Above has supported individuals who are struggling in a cycle of defeat which has primarily included addiction, homelessness, and incarceration through the 6-month residential treatment program based on the H.E.L.P.S. model.

Role Purpose
The Maintenance & Health and Safety Supervisor oversees the maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of all Rising Above properties, facilities, vehicles, and equipment. This role combines practical facility management with health and safety leadership, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations across the organisation. Responsible for preventive maintenance systems, facility improvements, safety initiatives, and maintenance-related projects, the supervisor works closely with participants, staff, contractors, and community partners to support Rising Above's mission. Through hands-on mentorship and skill development opportunities, this role also equips participants with practical experience, responsibility, and confidence while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all. This role reports to the Executive Director and works closely with our Financial Office. Through practical mentorship and servant leadership, this role helps participants develop responsibility, work ethic, confidence, and life skills while modelling Christian character and supporting the Christ-centred recovery culture of Rising Above.
Key Responsibilities
Facility & Property Management
- Maintain facilities in a manner that provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment consistent with the mission and values of Rising Above.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of Rising Above facilities, equipment, grounds, and vehicles.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, and service records.
- Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality work and cost-effective solutions.
- Communicate with the City of Grande Prairie for designated facility maintenance.
Health & Safety Leadership
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and organisational policies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard reviews.
- Investigate incidents, maintain safety records, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Project & Resource Management
- Provide coaching, supervision, and practical skill development for participant work teams while modelling Christian character, healthy work habits, stewardship, integrity, and accountability.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise maintenance projects, renovations, and facility improvements.
- Maintain maintenance logs, capital asset records, and equipment inventories.
- Manage maintenance budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation responsibly.
Training & Compliance
- Provide health and safety orientation and training for staff, volunteers, and participants.
- Ensure required inspections, permits, certifications, and safety documentation remain current.
- Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and facility safety procedures.
- Mentor participants in workplace safety, teamwork, responsibility, and servant leadership while reinforcing programme expectations and personal growth.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position involving both office administration and hands-on physical work.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency call-out responsibilities may be required.
- Participation in staff meetings, prayer times, ministry events, organizational initiatives, and participant support activities is expected as part of contributing to the Christ-centred culture of Rising Above.
