Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Chef to lead our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional who enjoys mentoring staff, maintaining high food quality standards, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors.
Role Summary
The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food production and kitchen operations while ensuring meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with orders, and provincial regulations. The successful candidate will lead a team of cooks while promoting a culture of teamwork, excellence, and resident-centered care.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the daily operations of the kitchen.
Plan, prepare, and oversee nutritious, appealing, and high-quality meals.
Schedule, supervise, train, and support kitchen staff.
Maintain food quality, consistency, and presentation standards.
Ensure compliance with FoodSafe, WorkSafeBC, infection prevention, and health authority regulations.
Monitor food and supply inventories and place orders.
Maintain accurate records related to food temperatures, sanitation, cleaning schedules and inventory.
Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborate work environment.
Sanitation - Ensure that the kitchen and surrounding areas are sanitized and kept clean in accordance with the company’s high standards, ensuring all health code regulations are adhered to.
Maintenance – must ensure all kitchen, and kitchen equipment is maintained and serviced as required. The Chef is responsible for ensuring all Kitchen Staff are trained in the proper use and service of all equipment.
Ensuring promptness, freshness and quality of dishes.
Coordinating cooks' tasks.
- Implementing hygiene policies and examining equipment for cleanliness.
- Reviewing staffing levels to meet service, operational and financial objectives.
- Hiring and training kitchen staff, such as cooks, food preparation workers and dishwashers.
- The Chef is responsible for kitchen food and supply purchasing. The Chef must deal with all suppliers in a respective, business like manner.
Obtaining feedback on food and service quality, and handling customer problems and complaints
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as Head Chef
- Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management
- Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills
- Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes
- Credentials in health and safety training
- Food Safety and Work Safe Training
- Approachable, pleasant, polite
- Able to work quickly, meet deadlines
- Self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision
- Must be able to understand both oral and written English
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
- Able to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
A. Education, Training and Experience
3+ Years of experience
FoodSafe Level 1
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Experience with menu planning, and inventory management
Minimum of three years of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
